We are so lucky to get hold of not only another Heuer Carrera, but Heuer Carrera 110.253 BN. This particular Carrera is a favourite of ours for good reason. As part of the storied Heuer Carrera line, it embodies the brand’s dedication to motorsport-inspired design—a legacy that began in the 1960s and remains influential to this day.

The Heuer Carrera was first introduced in 1963 by Jack Heuer, the great-grandson of the brand’s founder. Jack, a keen motorsport fan, was inspired by the gruelling Carrera Panamericana road race in Mexico. In the early 1960s, Jack Heuer was at the helm of Heuer, steering the brand toward new frontiers. The Heuer Carrera, introduced in 1963, was designed specifically with professional drivers in mind. His aim was to create a chronograph that mirrored the race’s spirit while addressing the practical needs of professional drivers. The result was a clean, legible dial with minimal distractions, featuring bold markers and a tachymeter scale. Its design focused on functionality without compromising aesthetics, quickly establishing the Carrera as an icon.

The Carrera line evolved throughout the decades, adapting to shifting tastes and technological advancements. By the 1970s, the watch industry was undergoing seismic changes, driven by the quartz revolution and the growing popularity of automatic chronographs. In response, Heuer introduced a series of bold, avant-garde designs powered by its Calibre 12 automatic movement, developed in collaboration with Breitling, Buren, and Dubois-Dépraz.

The Carrera 110.253, released in the mid-1970s, reflects this transitional period.

Powered by the Calibre 12, an evolution of the original Calibre 11, the 110.253 offered a reliable automatic chronograph with a unique left-side crown placement, a hallmark of Heuer’s innovative engineering. Its robust movement and distinctive styling made it a favourite among racing enthusiasts and collectors alike. With a 39mm diameter and a 14mm thickness, it offers a well-balanced size by modern standards, ensuring a comfortable and appealing fit on the wrist.

What makes the 110.253 so beloved today is its ability to capture the essence of the 1970s while maintaining a timeless appeal The true highlight of this timepiece however is its rich blue dial. The Geneva stripes (Cotes de Genève pattern) create a refined texture, while the sharp white markers and subtle orange highlights bring a vibrant contrast, giving the watch an undeniable visual appeal. This is one Heuer Carrera you don’t want to miss!
