This 1990 Rolex Datejust 16233G is currently for sale and presents a blend of preserved features with slight signs of wear. The case and bracelet are in good condition. There are light hairline scratches visible on the bracelet, typical of normal use over the years, yet these do not detract significantly from the watch’s overall appearance. Notably, there is no oxidation on the gold elements, maintaining the integrity and luster of the 18k yellow gold.
The dial of the watch has developed a lovely patina, transitioning into a rich bronze colour that adds a unique vintage appeal and character to the timepiece. This patination process is a desirable trait among vintage collectors, as it signifies the natural aging of the materials and contributes to the individuality of each piece. Additionally, the hands of the watch are flawless, with no signs of wear or damage.
Overall, this Rolex Datejust 16233G remains a highly attractive piece offering a beautiful example of Rolex’s classic design enhanced by natural aging effects that highlight its historical value and distinctive charm. Don't miss this one!

Why we love this watch
Why we love this watch
If you’re even a little into watches, you probably know the tale: in 1945, Rolex introduced the Datejust to celebrate its 40th anniversary—and promptly changed watchmaking forever. It was the first wristwatch to feature an automatically changing date display, which was a groundbreaking idea at the time. Pair that with the debut of the Jubilee bracelet and the now-iconic fluted bezel, and you have a design that quickly became the go-to symbol of elegance.
Fast-forward a few decades to the Rolex Datejust 16233, and it’s still as cool as ever. There aren’t many watches that can handle everything from a weekend T-shirt to the sharp cuffs of a tuxedo, but this one does it without breaking a sweat. We’re big fans of the two-tone look, and in stainless steel with 18k yellow gold, the 16233 feels luxurious yet versatile. At 36mm, it’s perfectly sized—especially now that the giant-watch trend has taken a back seat. It’s just right on most wrists, and we love that well-balanced look.
That iconic fluted bezel? It doesn’t just look good; it announces “Rolex Datejust” from across the room. And of course, there’s the Cyclops lens at 3 o’clock, magnifying the date and giving it that unmistakable Rolex vibe. This feature, which some might see as purely aesthetic, actually offers fantastic practicality—anyone who’s ever struggled to read the date in low light will appreciate that extra bit of clarity.
Under the hood, you’ll find the reliable Calibre 3135 movement, featuring a quickset date function so you can change the date independently of the hour and minute hands—super handy. Plus, the Parachrom hairspring helps it stand up to everyday knocks and magnetic fields, keeping it ticking accurately for the long haul. Rolex is famous for its commitment to precision, and the 3135 exemplifies the brand’s dedication to engineering a movement that remains stable over time.
Then there’s the Jubilee bracelet, introduced back in 1945. It’s known for being both comfortable and sophisticated, and in two-tone form, those steel-and-gold links really pop. The combination of metals not only adds interest visually, but it also makes the watch a perfect candidate for pairing with any jewellery. It’s as at home accessorising a crisp suit as it is dressing up a casual weekend outfit.
This watch is loaded with history that resonates with collectors and casual admirers alike. Whether you wear it daily or save it for special occasions, the 16233 embodies timeless elegance and Rolex’s unmatched craftsmanship. If you’re after a classic, reliable timepiece—or even your very first Rolex—you really can’t go wrong with the Datejust 16233. It’s a watch that will always stay in style, no matter how trends come and go.
One aspect that makes the Datejust such a strong choice is the range of dial options available. Collectors and enthusiasts might find sunburst dials, champagne dials, or even rare variations that add a dash of uniqueness to an already distinctive model. Whether you’re partial to minimalistic hour markers or prefer the extra sparkle of diamond indices, the 16233 can often be sourced in a configuration that suits your personal taste.
Another point worth mentioning is the robust nature of the watch. Although many consider the Datejust 16233 a dress piece, its Oyster case construction means it’s built to take on daily wear. With water resistance typically rated to 100 metres, you can go about most of your activities without fretting over accidental splashes. While it may not be a dive watch, that extra reassurance is always welcome.
In Australian watch-collecting circles, the Datejust 16233 has gained popularity as a versatile choice that suits a wide variety of lifestyles. From city professionals navigating busy workdays to travellers crossing time zones, the Datejust’s easy-to-read date and dependable movement make it an ideal companion. When you wear a 16233, you’re sporting a piece of horological history on your wrist—complete with the refinement and reliability that have come to define Rolex over decades of innovation.
Furthermore, the watch’s styling has a unique knack for ageing gracefully. Unlike some trend-driven pieces that might feel outdated after a few years, the Datejust manages to remain current thanks to its classic silhouette and well-considered proportions. This timelessness also underpins its desirability in the pre-owned market, making it a solid investment if you ever decide to part ways. However, many owners find themselves too attached to let go—testament to the Datejust’s enduring appeal.
All things considered, the Rolex Datejust 16233 stands as a brilliant representation of what Rolex does best: combining technical prowess with a design language that has remained iconic for generations. Its comfortable Jubilee bracelet, high-precision movement, and an unmistakable two-tone aesthetic ensure that it captures attention while still exuding subtle class. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or someone dipping a toe into the world of luxury watches, the 16233 delivers on every level. It’s a watch you can wear proudly in any setting—one that honours Rolex’s legacy and keeps you looking sharp, wherever life takes you.
