The case retains its robust structure, a feature that has long contributed to the Submariner’s reputation for durability. The accompanying bracelet is also in great shape, with minimal stretch and only light signs of wear, maintaining both its integrity and comfort on the wrist. This example of the 14060 represents the perfect blend of condition, functionality, and classic aesthetics. Its sharp case lines, well-maintained bracelet, and flawless dial make it a standout piece whether as a daily wearer or a cherished addition to a vintage Rolex collection.

Why we love this watch
Why we love this watch
The Rolex Submariner 14060, introduced in 1990 as the successor to the legendary reference 5513, is often celebrated as a bridge between vintage and modern Submariners. This model carries the spirit of the early Submariners. Known for its clean, no-date dial and two lines of text,, the 14060 is considered one of the purest iterations of the Submariner lineage.
As a no-date Submariner, the 14060 retains the uncluttered symmetry that purists love. The omission of the date complication, and by extension Rolex’s Cyclops magnification lens, gives the watch a balanced and straightforward aesthetic. It harks back to the tool watch origins of the Submariner, where functionality and legibility were paramount. Its aluminium bezel insert, while prone to fading over time, adds a touch of character and individuality to each piece as it develops a patina unique to its history. The 40mm stainless steel case preserves the slim, elegant profile of earlier models, avoiding the bulkier appearance of later “Super Case” designs.
The Submariner 14060 also introduced modern upgrades that distinguish it from its predecessors. It was the first no-date Submariner to feature a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, replacing the acrylic crystals found on earlier models. Combined with a Triplock crown, these innovations increased the water resistance to 300 metres, a significant improvement over the 200 metres offered by the reference 5513. This enhanced durability made the 14060 not only a capable dive watch but also a versatile choice for daily wear.
Inside is the Calibre 3130 movement, which brought the watch up to modern standards for accuracy and reliability. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, the movement offered improved timekeeping compared to earlier calibres. While it lacked certain refinements such as a Breguet overcoil, it was a robust and well-engineered movement, ideal for a watch designed to endure the rigours of professional use. True to its heritage as a tool watch, the 14060 kept things simple, with no chronometre certification or associated text cluttering the dial.
The Rolex Submariner 14060 occupies a special place in the history of the Submariner line. It represents the last of the Submariners to retain many traditional design elements, such as the aluminium bezel insert, slim case proportions, and lug holes, while benefiting from modern advancements in materials and water resistance. This combination of vintage charm and practical performance makes it a standout reference and a highly sought-after piece for enthusiasts who value the purity of the no-date Submariner.
For collectors, the Submariner 14060 is often regarded as one of the best options for those seeking a versatile, iconic dive watch with a rich history. Its timeless design and robust construction ensure it remains a favourite, and that’s why we love it.
