Why we love this watch

Tudor Pelagos “State of Qatar” 42MM 25600TN 2020 Box & Papers

Produced from 2015 onwards, the Tudor Pelagos 25600TN represents Tudor’s modern interpretation of a professional grade dive instrument, combining titanium construction, a helium escape valve and an in house automatic movement. In its “State of Qatar” configuration, the Pelagos takes on an additional layer of identity, linking Tudor’s contemporary tool watch to a specific regional partnership. A 2020 example complete with box and papers captures both the technical integrity of the Pelagos platform and the distinctiveness of this co signed execution.

The Historical Context of Tudor as a Tool Watch Brand

The Foundation of Tudor

Tudor was established in 1926 under the guidance of Hans Wilsdorf, founder of Rolex. The intention was clear: to create watches that delivered reliability and durability at a more accessible level while maintaining the engineering philosophy associated with Rolex. From the mid twentieth century onwards, Tudor became closely associated with military and professional diving applications.

Throughout the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, Tudor Submariner references were supplied to naval forces including the French Marine Nationale. These watches were valued for their robustness and legibility in demanding underwater environments. That legacy of utilitarian credibility informs the modern Pelagos.

From Submariner to Pelagos

While Tudor produced Submariner models for decades, the Pelagos marked a decisive step into a new era. Rather than simply revisiting vintage designs, Tudor developed a contemporary dive watch with modern materials and construction. The Pelagos is not a nostalgic recreation. It is a purpose built diver engineered for contemporary expectations.

The Pelagos 25600TN Platform

Titanium Construction

The 42mm case of the Pelagos 25600TN is constructed from titanium, a material chosen for its strength to weight ratio and resistance to corrosion. Compared to stainless steel, titanium offers reduced weight on the wrist while maintaining structural rigidity.

The satin brushed finishing reinforces the tool watch character of the model. There is no high polish excess. Surfaces are functional and purposeful. The case profile is angular and precise, reflecting modern manufacturing tolerances.

500 Metre Water Resistance

The Pelagos is rated to 500 metres of water resistance. This specification exceeds the needs of recreational diving and positions the watch firmly within professional territory. The presence of a helium escape valve at nine o’clock supports its suitability for saturation diving environments.

The unidirectional rotating bezel features a ceramic insert with luminous markers, ensuring legibility in low light underwater conditions. The bezel action is deliberate and secure, designed to prevent accidental rotation.

The In House Movement

Calibre MT5612

At the heart of the Pelagos 25600TN is the Tudor MT5612 automatic movement. This in house calibre operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a power reserve of approximately 70 hours.

The movement features a silicon balance spring, contributing to resistance against magnetic fields and temperature variation. It is certified as a chronometer by COSC, reflecting Tudor’s emphasis on precision and stability.

The architecture includes a full balance bridge for enhanced shock resistance, reinforcing the Pelagos as a professional instrument rather than a lifestyle accessory.

The “State of Qatar” Signature

Regional Co Signed Execution

The “State of Qatar” configuration introduces a red script signature on the dial above six o’clock. This co signing reflects Tudor’s relationship with the Qatari market and regional partnerships.

Co signed dials have a long history within Swiss watchmaking. Retailer signatures and regional designations were historically applied to watches distributed through specific markets. In the modern era, such executions are less common, making the State of Qatar Pelagos a distinctive variation within the contemporary Tudor catalogue.

Visual Impact

The red signature contrasts sharply against the matte black dial of the Pelagos. It introduces a subtle focal point without overwhelming the clean layout. The overall design remains legible and balanced.

The snowflake hands, a Tudor hallmark since the late 1960s, provide immediate visual identity. Their bold geometry ensures clarity against the dial and luminous hour markers.

Proportion and Wearability

42mm Presence

At 42mm, the Pelagos carries contemporary presence, yet the lightweight titanium construction ensures comfort. The case thickness is substantial, reflecting the 500 metre rating, but the watch remains well balanced due to its material choice.

The integrated titanium bracelet includes a patented clasp system with an auto adjusting spring mechanism. This allows the bracelet to expand and contract slightly with changes in wrist size or diving suit compression.

Professional Aesthetic

The Pelagos does not rely on decorative flourishes. The dial is matte. The case is brushed. The typography is clear and functional. Even in State of Qatar form, the watch remains anchored in practicality.

2020 Production Context

Modern Tudor Renaissance

By 2020, Tudor had firmly re established itself as a serious player in the mechanical watch industry. The introduction of in house movements across much of the range marked a departure from reliance on third party calibres.

The Pelagos stood as the technical flagship of Tudor’s dive watch offering. While the Black Bay line drew heavily on vintage inspiration, the Pelagos represented modern engineering.

A 2020 example benefits from the maturity of this platform. Production tolerances, finishing standards and movement reliability had all been refined through several years of continuous manufacture.

Box and Papers Completeness

The presence of original box and papers anchors the watch to its point of sale and confirms its configuration. Documentation provides clarity regarding reference, serial and original distribution.

For a co signed dial such as the State of Qatar variant, completeness reinforces provenance and contextual accuracy.

Why We Love the Tudor Pelagos “State of Qatar”

Authentic Tool Watch DNA

The Pelagos remains one of the most purpose built dive watches available in the modern Tudor catalogue. Titanium construction, 500 metre water resistance, helium escape valve and in house chronometer movement define its credentials.

The State of Qatar signature does not alter these specifications. Instead, it adds a layer of narrative to an already robust platform.

Distinctive Yet Restrained

The red script introduces individuality without compromising legibility. The matte black dial and luminous indices maintain clarity. The snowflake hands preserve Tudor heritage.

The watch feels cohesive. The co signed detail is integrated rather than applied as an afterthought.

Modern Engineering with Historical Continuity

From Tudor’s mid century military associations to the contemporary Pelagos, there is continuity in purpose. The brand has consistently prioritised durability and function. The Pelagos embodies that philosophy in modern form.

The State of Qatar variant connects this heritage to a specific regional relationship, reflecting the global reach of Tudor in the twenty first century.

Final Thoughts

The Tudor Pelagos “State of Qatar” 42mm 25600TN from 2020 combines modern dive watch engineering with a distinctive co signed dial execution. Titanium construction, 500 metre water resistance, helium escape valve and the MT5612 in house chronometer movement define its technical credentials.

The red State of Qatar signature adds character without disrupting the functional clarity of the design. Complete with box and papers, the watch represents a well documented example of Tudor’s contemporary tool watch philosophy.

The Pelagos does not rely on nostalgia. It is engineered for purpose. In State of Qatar form, it carries both technical authority and a specific regional identity, reinforcing why this reference continues to resonate within Tudor’s modern catalogue.
